Cyclists warned to check their insurance this easter

A recent study from Defaqto has highlighted how many cyclists are under-insured.

New analysis of all available home insurance policies on the market has revealed that one in eight have no cover for bikes as standard, meaning cyclists are left out of pocket should something happen.

Of the home insurance policies that do include cover for bicycles, only one in five (18%) offer cover up to £500.

Standard home insurance does not cover bikes while away from home, leaving cyclists vulnerable.

As Easter approaches, if the weather permits us, many cyclists up and down the country will be taking their bikes out to make the most of the holiday, however most will likely find that they are under-insured with their standard home insurance policy.

Another key area that Defaqto found cyclists to be vulnerable is with the ‘single item limit’. Typically home insurance policies have a limit on the amount a person can claim for any one item, which is usually £1,500. This means that if your bike is worth more than £1,500 you wouldn’t be adequately covered in the event of a claim.
